The Peace Monument (also called Our Lady of Peace) is a colossal
commemorative sculpture of the Virgin Mary, entirely made of concrete, built 11
km southwest of the city of Trujillo, in Venezuela.4 With 46.72 meters height,
16 meters wide, 18 deep at the base and about 1200 tons, is the highest
habitable sculpture of America, 5 being taller than the statue of Liberty in
New York in the United States and the statue of Christ the Redeemer Rio de
Janeiro in Brazil. It was the statue dedicated to the Virgin Mary highest in
the world until the inauguration of the Monument of the Divina Pastora (patron
saint of Lara state, also from Venezuela).
Location
The statue is located
between the Valley of the Cedars and the Zanjón de Los Muecas, about 565 km
from Caracas. From Maracaibo, happening through the city of Valera, you get the
monument to Peace by the highway Valera - Trujillo. If coming from the north,
through Pampán and Pampanito, then fall into the above highway. If you come
from Boconó, you can cut through the road that leaves Siquisay and extending to
La Plazuela.
